Albert Ried Recieves "All State" Recognition and Rushes Friendship to Best Year

Senior running back Albert Reid was chosen as Washington, D.C’s Gatorade Player Of the Year and lead the Knights to their best season. Gatorade winners must demonstrate athletic production; have a major impact on his team’s season; show high academic achievements; and, exemplary personal character. Mr. Reid lead Collegiate with 1,705 yards rushing and totaled 17 touchdowns. He ran for over 100 yards in every game, and eclipsed the 200 yard marker three times. In the class room he carries a B average and shows exemplary character volunteering locally as a youth mentor.

The season kicked off with our first nationally televised appearance, against Taft HS in Ohio, at the ESPNU Chili Showdown. After defeating Taft, the Knights continued their campaign with a victory over a very big Mount Saint Joe’s team in another invitational, the I-95 Classic. With the full attention of Metro area fans, Collegiate defeated Maryland top 10 , Georgetown Prep, on the Fox 5 TV game of the week. That win rocketed the Knights to their first Washington Post, Metro Top 10 appearance at number 4.

The only loss of the season was on the road, in the Bronx, in another top invitational. Friendship accepted a match against Bergen Catholic, a national powerhouse. The three game invitational included the nation’s number one team, Don Bosco Prep. The Knight’s explosive offense scored more points against Bergen, than Don Boscoe, managed against them the week before. Friendship’s program took a big step forward.

The single loss dropped Friendship out of the Metro Top 10, but they battled back to Metro number 7, finishing at 9-1. For the first time Friendship gained All- Met honors with two players, Eddie Goldman and Albert Reid. If you have a moment , take a look at the CBS/ Max Prep national ratings for the other Metro Top 10 teams. Max Preps knows that you can’t be the best, unless you play against best. That’s what the Knights do.

Let’s not forget, that the best of the season is yet to come. College is our first goal. Anticipate our best year for full scholarships and Division I placements.

Go Knights!
