Knights Fall in Overtime

Hokie's recruit, Ricardo Young, hit Dejohn Evans on a 10-yard screen pass on fourth down in overtime to give Woodson a heart-stopping 36-28 victory over Friendship Collegiate. Many were calling the match-up as the real Turkey Bowl. Played at Eastern High, site of the D.C. Interscholastic Athletic Association title contest each Thanksgiving, our game made a very strong case for the District's public and charter schools to play in one league.
Friendship controlled the early game taking a 20-6 lead on the third play of the third quarter when Malcolm Crockett ran 60 yards for a touchdown on a third-and-one play. But Woodson took control of most of the third and fourth quarter capitalizing on a Friendship fumble to go ahead to 22 -20. Woodson maintained their momentum until a fumble at the Knights one yard line. The Knights went 97 yards to score and take the lead 28-22 with 1:35 to play.
The rest must be credited to the poise of Young who sent the game into overtime with plays that included a 31 yard reception. Young found a reciever on the fourth down of the first segment of overtime and Friendship failed to answer when it was their turn. It came down to 4 and 1, but Crockett was stopped.
Congratulations to the Warriors. Friendship plays with many sophmores and juniors so stay tuned for next year.
